Believe it or not
I was a burned out yoga teacher.
The worst part - is that I had no idea
Yep. I burned out on compassion!
Get this -
It's because I LOVED HELPING PEOPLE
It was like being in a bad relationship
I kept giving and giving and giving
of myself, my time and my energy....
having no idea,
that I was becoming more and more
burned out and was
experiencing compassion fatigue.
So there I was...
A single mom of three...
Working as a yoga teacher and movement therapist,
Teaching as a college professor in the science of well-being,
and Leading a team as a studio owner.
I was loving what I was doing - helping others
But at night, when I was alone, I knew...
I was burned out.
It felt terrible...
Not just because it was tiring,
But because so many people were depending on me...
How could I take a break and let them all down?
One night I decided I had better do something...
I was humiliated. I was hurt, and wow was I tired.
But I knew I had to get smart about what
had happened to me --
and to learn what I needed to do
to get out from under...
and to get back to living well.
And so I did.
I researched the science of well-being...
and discovered I had both burnout and compassion fatigue...
I couldn't believe that noone in any of my prior
training had ever taught me about these conditions...
or how to avoid them.
I then did a lot of work, figuring out what went wrong for me
with hopes that I could someday help other people like you avoid the same mistakes.
I don't want you or anyone else to feel the way I felt.
And I do want you to and everyone else to feel
the way I feel today -- active, vibrant, thriving --
even when life gets tough, and when work
gets demanding. So no, its not about slowing down...
It is about learning how to prepare for the journey
of being a helper, a healer, for this world.
We need our own unique training program,
and that's exactly what Well-Being Ultimatum is.
So if you or someone you know loves helping
others, its my plea that you will
read this book, and learn how to make
your Well-being Ultimatum once and for all --
so that you can protect your well-being,
and keep on doing the amazing things that
only you can do.
